Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Why I mention Hollywood negatively

July 29th 2009 14:06
If anyone is curious as to why I always degrade Hollywood, it's because Hollywood isn't the same as it used to be. Sure Hollywood always looked towards money, but they also focused on artistic quality and value as well. Nowadays, It's hard to find any movie that doesn't appeal directly to the same mainstream level. The films that you can find like this are often straight to DVD. The recycled mainstream movies are always shipped to theaters. the other thing that bugs me is that Hollywood never tries to hide it. they just throw it out to us like a sack of meat into a pack of wolves. We have these stupid reality television shows that produce all these fraud celebrities who are depicted as role models and talented for behaving like a juvenile delinquent on television. It makes me sick to see what kind of garbage we are being fed. Don't get me wrong Hollywood is a business and will look towards anything that makes a profit which is not a bad thing. However, if the product is bad then we need to stop watching it so that it disappears.

I honestly want to go to Hollywood and break into the film business, which may make me sound like a hypocrite if you've read many of my comments, but I'm trying to bring some new ideas and light into the recycled formula of mainstream movies. My dream is to bring back good horror and create my own style of film like a different genre or conglomerate known as mainstream entertainment. I want to create something that is so creative and original that it will take years before anything else like it is developed. I want to bring artistic value back into movies, without any agendas towards certain groups or businesses. i want to make a movie like The Hurt Locker which is easily the best movie this year, but sadly Hollywood believes that it's only worthy of a limited release. It's an amazing war movie without any agenda except showing the work of a soldier in a bomb destroying group in the War on terror. it shows the difficulty of the job rather than the controversy over the war which makes it so spectacular.

Hopefully, anyone who reads this review tries watching some artistic straight to DVD films, because they are often fantastic. I hope one day Hollywood will focus more on artistic quality of films rather than just pure commercialism.
