Trick R Treat review
September 28th 2009 23:36
Yest the long awaited trick R Treat movie arrives soon, but I was able to see it earlier which is great fortune for me because this movie is by far a prime example of good movies that are sadly sent staright to DVD when they have so much potential. I can't understand why the studio refused to submit this film to theaters because it's box office gold. It's loaded with fun, gore and sex which makes it even more appealing to the horror audience plus it's really just pure fun. There are plenty of creepy moments as well in this film, which brings it into the drag Me to Hell category with the campy fun except this film was like a giant flashback to classic 80's horror.
The movie is essentially four intertwining stories about strange events happening on Halloween. a girlfriend who hates her boyfriend's obsession with the holiday, a principal who is a serial killer, a virgin girl who might have just found the right guy, and young teenagers trying to pay tribute to the dead of a ghastly urban legend. These stories all interconnect and involve almost every character in the same storyline except for a few which is pretty sweet.
The cast is very good we have brian Cox, and Anna Paquin. They both fit their roles perfectly as well as the other actors. they all play their parts well and the movie spares no boundaries on the deaths of kids and adults which is very good for the usual same age death category. There are quite a few creepy scenes that are darkly funny, like candy used as a trap with razor blades. Plus the costumes and the comic book style of the pumpkin head kid is simply awesome. His fight scene with Brian cox reminded me almost of those over the top Sam Raimi horror fight scenes in the Evil Dead.
Now I don't want to spoil anything about this film except that it's the most fun you'll have this Halloween in the horror genre. I'm seriously telling you to buy this DVD instead of renting it because it's that damn good. it's a shame that the studio overlooked this film on the shelf for so long because it's fantastic. I'm going to buy it myself and there are very few movies that I usually buy. this movie is officially on DVD on October 6th in the U.S. and October 26th in the UK.
Thank you Michael Dougherty for making this film and I can't wait for the graphic novel adaptation.
Review A minus
