Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Thor continues the high hopes of the Avengers!

May 20th 2011 02:24
Ok, Thor was amazing! When I went to watch it in theaters, I felt like I was a child again watching a movie. It was the same feeling I felt when I watched Avatar, Inception, or King Kong. This film had a great lineup of actors and actresses. However the real break out star is Chris Hemsworth who adds a likability to Thor by acting one dimensional, and using gestures, and expressions to express the actions in order to hide the true character. In fact I think that the character of Thor was developed with the backstory and the actions of the supporting characters rather than the actro himself. Nonetheless, he has the physique, charisma, and chops that just scream superhero. Tom Hiddleston was excellent as Loki as he just had a natural look that seemed like he was hungry or lusting for power and attention. He looked as plotting as the other characters described him to be. His acting was powerful and his scenes with Anthony Hopkins were the most emotionally gripping of the movie as it revealed his true character as both villain, and tormented son longing for the attention and acceptance of his father. Kenneth Branagh did an excellent job as the director. He grasped the focus of the relationships between the characters extremely well, and provided us with some delicious scenery and eye candy with the visual effects. I mean you truly have to see these effects to see how beautiful this film is. They were almost like Speed Racer except more thrilling and engaging.

The only flaw that I found in this film was the scenes on Earth. They slowed the movie down a bit too much and didn't necessarily grab the audience especially after witnessing the beauty of the space scenes. The human characters and scenery simply couldn't live up to that of the Norse Gods. I think that is what will divide most critics is this aspect because it kills so much momentum, and seems more like filler rather than adding anything to the story.

However the good far exceeds the bad in this motion picture which should have comic book fans longing for the The Avengers and the sequel to this movie.
