Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

The Collector review

August 2nd 2009 03:15
Well we have an appetizer for a horror film before we get another sad remake of a Halloween movie and The Final Destination. This film is from the writers of Saw 3-5 and feast, so we basically know where this movies going already. It stars Josh stewart in a Clive Owen like role as a handyman and ex con who decides to rob his new employer's house after he finds out his ex girlfriend is in trouble with a loan shark. He decides to rob the house when they are on vacation. However when he gets in he realizes that somebody else is inside and torturing the family that lives there when he hears screaming from the cellar.

First of all if there was any real robber likes this guy he'd be on the list of World's dumbest criminals. Why would you not bring a cell phone with you in case you were in trouble? Well there are many questions regarding the killer like how he can change a house into a trap set modeled after the Spanish inquisition. A room that was earlier that day clean is filled with a pool of acid. This film started off well with the terror being offscreen until you finally see the killer who has no backstory which is a plus. He's just there because he's there.

Well movie critics will likely skewer this film due to it's torture porn feel. I can see why this film was mean't to be a prequel to saw except ten times worse on the gore scale. Unlike Sam Raimi's film Drag Me To Hell every scare is heightened with graphic violence and nothing is offscreen. There is even a cat sequence that will make any animal lover puke their guts out. This film is like Feast when it comes to how much blood is in this film and the death scenes are so brutal and unnerving that you'll either laugh at how over the top it is if you're a gore hound or cover your eyes and hold back your vomit. This film is easily one of the msot brutal films I've ever seen and it'll be a delight for any horror fan who appreciates graphic gore with almost no direction as the film goes on.

To sum it up this film offers nothing but killing. It had traps, but no puzzles and it has some nude breasts on tortured women to appeal to those who like to see women torture which is the basic Hostel fan. This film wasn't about anything else except for the basics and knowledge of killing and torturing others. for gore hounds this a must but for anyone else who wants real horror they should wait for something else rather than just an outtake of saw.
