Shutter Island review

Finally another reunion of Leornado Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese has arrived. Is it as good as the departed? Hell No, but it is still a damn good movie from the greatest current American director alive. This film stars Dicaprio as Teddy Daniels, and Mark Ruffalo as Chuck his partner who are going to shutter island in order to investigate the missing patient known as Rachel Solando. Strange things start to happen as all the employees at the Island all seem very dangerous and hiding something. it gets weirder when when Teddy Daniels starts having bizarre hallucinations of his dead wife who died in a fire.
This film works very well when you take into account the artistic and terrifying yet beautiful cinematography of shutter island and all the flashbacks of WW2. You truly feel pulled in by this true Scorsese style. He continues to show his artistic touch as his movies grow more commercial. The cast is phenomenal as all of there parts are relatively short yet meaningful due to how professional they act and show all their talents. That is where one of the big problems is. The acting is so good that the screenplay doesn't live up all the way to the acting. Now I loved the book. The story is amazing, and the ending is brilliant as well and surprising to many people who haven't read the book and they see the movie first. While the screenplay has smart and well written dialogue it sadly drags the story on longer than it needs to be. This movie would have worked better if it was a half an hour shorter.
At least Scorsese proved again with another great entry into his film legacy that he attempted a great psychological thriller. This film has amazing atmospheric creepiness and a great gothic style and moody soundtrack to accompany the film yet it can't overcome the dragged out pacing. At least it works though.
