Shorts film review

I didn't realize Grindhouse was back in theaters until I realized that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez both directed films for this week. While Quentin's was easily the better movie and it aimed to be the better movie, Robert Rodriguez showed us why he is a great director in every genre that he does. Shorts, his latest film which is hilarious for kids and features some pretty big stars such as James spader(awesome), and Mrs. Apatow aka Leslie Mann(pretty awesome).
This is how the story goes. In the suburb of black falls, all houses look the same and everyone works for Black Box unlimited Worldwide Industries Incorporated, whose Mr. Black's Black box is the ultimate communication and do it all gadget that is sweeping the nation. Boy that was a tongue twister wasn't it. However, while it keeps his parents employed, Mr. black's Black box does nothing for an eleven year old named Toe Thompson, who just wants to make a few friends until a mysterious rainbow colored rock falls from the sky, hits him in the head and changes everything. The rainbow rock does Mr. Black's Black Box one better it grants wishes to anyone who holds it. Before long the rock wishes have left the neighborhood gone wrong with craziness and creatures roaming around like tiny spaceships, crocodile armies, giant boogers and magical mayhem. But it's not until the grown ups get their hands on the rock that the trouble really starts. now Toe and his new found friends must join forces to save the town from itself, discovering along the way that what you wish for is not always what you want.
Yes I know the synopsis is long, but this film is vivid and exciting, plus it's always fun to see James Spader as a villain. this film is really meant to be strictly for kids, but i don't have a problem with that because it's over the top and interesting. It's a creative movie and I don't see why most of the critics have such a problem with it. The only problem could be the film's overwhelming ideas and CGI thrown at the screen might be a bit too much for audiences to endure, but it's still better than Transformers 2. This film may be strictly for kids, but it's still a pretty good time and it's got everything that G Force didn't.
Rodriguez may not have beaten Tarantino, but at least he made a decent film to satisfy the children with until he comes around with Machete or Sin City 2 to satisfy his adult audience.
