Orphan review

This movie was no Drag Me To Hell, but it was an above average killer kid movie. It was a solid horror movie experience that was chilling and had plenty of blood and brutality. In the first hour of the film Esther literally beats someone to a bloody pulp onscreen with a hammer. It gets worse and worse in gore from there.
The performances of Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgard were fine as usual. vera did more yelling and Moaning than she did in Joshua, another killer kid movie. Peter Sarsgard made you want to kick him so bad as his role as the husband who completely ignores any possible idea that Esther is evil even when the evidence is right in front of him. Isabelle Fuhrman is amazing as Esther and really amps up the creepiness and the brutality for the role.
The film begins with Vera Farmiga's character having a sick and disturbing dream about her dead still born child. So she and her husband(Peter Sarsgard) go to an orphanage to adopt Esther to replace Jessica, the still born child. They add Esther to the family including Danny who resents esther and their deaf child, Max. Some of the best parts of this movie revolve around Esther communicating with Max and you can tell the difference between the evil of Esther and the innocence of Max.
The film has a great twist which turns the whole thing around on the audience and it will haunt your dreams. This twist was almost as good as the Sixth Sense and The Uninvited. The movie could've played better on the twist rather than unveiling it out of the blue when they had two hours to build it up. The first hour is the best with the creepiness and then it turns bloody for all the gore hounds out there.
I enjoyed this movie and It think it's a better than average horror movie that is unfairly receiving mixed and average reviews just because towards the end it goes a little too overboard. However, we finally have a solid creepy kid movie that doesn't involve demonic possession or any form of overused exorcism, or someone else having split personality disorder, though it does hint at this to throw you off. This is still a good summer horror movie.
