Insidious is scary in a good way!

The Saw team of Whannell and Wan reunites for this terrifying movie which Wan was aiming to be the poltergeist of this generation. This low budget film made for only 1 million dollars looks better than its price thanks to sharp editing and directing by James Wan. The screenplay is clever thanks to Whannell.
The film centers around a couple whose son is in a coma after falling into a coma. It turns out that this is not a coma and their son is being haunted by spirits trying to take over his body. This film has two fine leads played great by Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. The film also has a wonderful supporting cast including Barbara Hershey, Lynn Shae, and Leigh Whannell himself in a great role for comic relief in this dark film.
This film has plenty of scares after a rather slow beginning, and its premise is original and relies on actual terror rather than blood and gore in most horror films nowadays. It's great to see the normally graphic style of James Wan put away in favor of some really well executed scares.
The only issues with this film besides the slow beginning is the ending which feels to overdone and contrived to belong in a film with such an original concept as this film does. Luckily the good outweighs the bad in this film and I applaud James Wan for finally taking his art of horror in the right direction.
Review B
