Inglorious Basterds review

At last we have another Quentin Tarantino movie. He appears to be back to his old style with this latest film and it incorporates all of Tarantino's usual wordy dialogue and gags with plenty of blood and violence to spare even though the blood isn't as frequent as his other movies. This movie has two stories going on at the same time and the climatic battle scene is by far one of the most creative scenes that i've ever seen. It was inspired by the Inglorious bastards a 1978 film, but this film is far from a remake.
The film stars Brad Pitt in the title role as Aldo raine a the commanding officer of the basterds. He and the other bastards are there in Germany for one thing only and that is killing Nazi's. Their goal is that they must scalp the Nazi's. They always allow one german soldier that they capture to live so that he can tell the tales of their terror to the other German officers. this squad is only one force of this film as their is another force led by shosanna(Melanie Laurent), who is the only survivor of an attack led by the "Jew hunter" played terrifically by Christoph Waltz.
Shosanna who manages to survive the attack and changes her identity, which is never revealed a noticeable plot hole. Anyway she has become the proprietress of a cinema which is chosen by Frederick Zoller(Daniel Bruhl), a spotlight hungry German sniper whose exploits are celebrated in the Nazi propaganda film, "A nation's Pride", as the setting for the film premiere. Since he is attracted to Shosanna he convinces Goebbels to hold the premiere in her cinema. Shossana does not share his feelings. when she realizes the presence of so many high ranking Nazi officers and officials she decides to change the final reel and let the Nazi's know of her Jewish identity and revenge by burning the cinema down with all of them inside.
In the meantime the british decide to attack the premiere as well by infiltrating it with a double agent actress played by Diane Kruger and a british officer Lt. Archie Hitcox. they will meet with the bastards and attempt the assassination.
So basically this film is loaded with quirky and offbeat humor in a stylized directing style with few scenes that contain graphic violence like your basic Tarantino movie. It's still fun even though it drags a bit up until the finale. A bloody finale of action and fun. Brad Pitt is hilariously cast, but the show is stolen by Christoph Waltz easily and I'm not surprised that he won an award for his performance at the Cannes. I feel the shosanna story was much better than the Basterds, but it's an odd movie and fairly interesting. some may not like it while others will.
I personally thought this film could've been much better, but it's good to see the old Quentin Tarantino back rather than the kill bill and Death Proof one. Those were good movies, but this is more of a reminder of his old classics and some new style too. There are some plot holes and unnecessary parts, but all is acted well just don't take it too seriously and you'll be fine. it's not boring despite some slow parts and it can be quite insensitive, but it's Tarantino and you'll be entertained throughout.
