I Love You Beth Cooper review
July 14th 2009 16:16
This movie was hardly anything special and it didn't do much advertising to make it seem more than average to begin with. This film starred Hayden Panettiere and Paul Rust who actually have good chemistry in this film. This is one of the only highlights of this film that saves it. However, this cannot save this film from being morally cliche and amateurish. This film came from an overrated book to begin with so it's no surprise that Larry Doyle couldn't adapt a raunchy tale to the big screen in PG-13 fashion. I have no idea what Chris Columbus was thinking when he made this film.
This film starts off with a senior Valedictorian and nerd who declares his love for Beth cooper, a girl who he has loved, but never talked to throughout his high school life. He then goes on to insult the senior body unintentionally. Beth's military and coked up boyfriend, Kevin comes after him especially when Denis Cooverman invites her to a party at his house. She shows up and her boyfriend follows and breaks into the house under a coke filled rage. Then the story goes into a typical and cliched romp about a teenager's last day of high school celebration where Beth takes Denis on a wild ride, that is hardly wild if you've seen any other comedy based on this idea. The film's meant to be dirty humor never takes effect as it's so watered down by the PG-13 rating that it is unbelievable altogether. They eventually fall in love as expected after over an hour and a half of cliche high school humor and movie references that are as stale as a stale plate of nachos. I'd say skip this movie and wait for a better book adaptation going by the name of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
