Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Hollywood is setting up Sandra Bullock to win the Oscar.

January 16th 2010 17:30
In the old tradition of Hollywood handing awards to those who serve it well with plenty of cash then look no further than Sandra Bullock. Her films have made millions and she is an audience favorite with her appeal of America's favorite sweetheart. however, with all the recent buzz over the Blind Side performance, I decided to see it for myself. It's more shocking than my punctuation error on my last blog on incorrectly spelling Spiderman. I will be changing this very soon. The shocking truth is that the performance is far from extraordinary, and while the feeling of the movie's inspiration may be able to fuel her performance. It is highly overrated to say the least.

I'll give Sandra Bullock some credit. She is a talented actress, and she has been in some great films, and entertaining popcorn films, but in my opinion she has not shown any performance that anybody else could have performed. Sure you can say that she starred in crash, but that was one of the worst best picture movies of all time. Somebody told me that she proved her oscar worthiness by out acting a major star named Keanu Reeves in speed. Well honestly who can't out act Keanu Reeves?

So I'm hoping you all see my point, but regardless she is still nominated. There is even an article saying that Bullock is the highest grossing actress this year when it comes to movies. I wonder if they mentioned All About Steve. This is further Hollywood media attempting to push bullock as the best actress.

Now let's analyze the competition. She has almost no competition in the best actress category for golden globes in both comedy and drama except for Meryl Streep. at the Critics choice Award she had no competition so she had to tie with Meryl Streep. Well what a way for the critics to kiss Hollywood's ass. How could they compare Bullock to Meryl streep? Hollywood is giving the only mainstream movie in the best actress comedy a reason to push Bullock to the top. she even got a globe nomination for the Proposal which was far from good or even fantastic, but it made money and people loved it so it earned Bullock a nomination.

It sucks when Hollywood likes somebody that they have to push somebody all the way to the top by giving lame nominees just to guarantee an Oscar win for a blockbuster star. Seriously, I'll be impressed if bullock actually won with some real nominations and competition, and actually starring in a halfway decent comedy and a spectacular and oscar worthy film.

I have one more reason as to why she shouldn't win. All About Steve.

Sounds like a repeat of the Erin Brockavich tragedy where Julia Roberts was given the Oscar over the amazing talent of Ellen Burstyn.

Merryl Streep is great in Julie and Julia but I can't really see her winning for it. It hasn't been a great year for female roles... hopefully Zoey Deschanel or Rose Byrne get surprise nominations or something.
