Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince review

July 16th 2009 16:17
Well this was better than the last few harry Potter films by a long shot. I was especially surprised by this revelation after the rating was lowered to PG rather than a PG-13 considering the fact that the book was more graphic, but it was a little more tame than its preceding books. However, the next movie needs to be PG-13 because it's loaded with more carnage, blood and darkness.

I'll start off by saying props to David Yates for directing another great Potter film. Maybe if Chris Columbus did the same we wouldn't have had to sit through I Love You Beth Cooper. This movie took another storyline that was the humor of the book and made that the main entertainment in the movie. It took the romantic comedy moments between the characters and focused on that for the entire film as well as scenes of other light hearted humor and adventure. This movie was the most enjoyable of the Harry Potter films that I've seen this decade.

The new character Slughorn added a good plot structure and humor to the flow of the movie. The other three characters of Harry, Hermione and Weasley were all played with the exact same freshness that we've been seeing during the course of all the Potter films. The visual effects were amazing and seemed even better this time around than before. They didn't even use the nonstop effects like they usually do. They saved on using certain major effects for the brief, but mind blowing attack scenes with the Death Eaters.

If you've read the book than you should know the ending to this film, but for those who never read the book. Basically, the few that haven't read the book are equal to the few people in the World who forgive Bush. Well those few might cry at the end which is perfect considering that the film was kept so comic and witty that the ending finally turns everything around and gives you that emotional tug that you needed to appreciate the drama and magic of the story.

This was a phenomenal film and hopefully David Yates directs the next one. Oh well I'm off to play some Qudditch.
