Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Film schools

June 20th 2009 13:46
An anonymous reader left a comment regarding which film schools were the best. this I found very interesting because I'm also intending on pursuing a film career and attending film school. I'm no college professor, but I'll try to give my readers the best advice possible. So here are the list of the films schools that I'd suggest:

1. UCLA. It's in Los Angeles so of course its right in the atmosphere of Hollywood itself. It has a long list of Alumni from actors to actresses and quite a few filmmakers as well and there film school is very selective so graduating from there will give you a good reputation. However, UCLA has many professors who are busy with research and independent work for grants so when your at UCLA, you'll be on your own. UCLA is also considered to be a public Ivy League school just to give you an idea of its difficulty.

2. USC. This is the rival of UCLA and is considered by many to be the greatest film school in the United States. The football isn't the only rivalry its the battle of the film schools. If you compare the amount of successful directors and producers from USC it almost doubles UCLA. It's also a private school and is more expensive which is one of its few negatives. The Peter stark Producing program is the one of the best producing graduate programs as well. A famous Alumni from this college is Judd Apatow, which is always a plus.

3. FSU. This is that school in Florida that's known for crazy parties and lots of drinking. It may not have the party school title that UF had, but according to the students its because UF celebrated to much every time the gators won a game. FSU is known as a drinking school but it also has one of the best film schools in the world. The dean was recently inducted into the motion picture hall of fame for inspiring his students and the film school has won many student Oscars. A famous alumni from this college is Alan Ball who won an Oscar for his screenplay known as American Beauty and he also created Six Feet Under and created the adaptation of the True Blood series on HBO.

4. Fullsail. It's an accredited college that works you to the bone, and into debt, but its one of the best digital media and film schools in the world. It's located in Orlando and has the famous alumni of Darren Lynn Bousman who gave us Saw 2-4 and Repo The Genetic Opera.

5. Film schools in New York. It's New York. What part of entertainment don't they teach here?

Well i hope this gives my anonymous reader some good advice. If anyone else has any film schools they'd like to suggest leave a comment.
