Box Office Roundup 8/18/09
August 18th 2009 13:32
Well as I predicted District 9 was the number one movie followed by GI Joe the Rise of cobra in second place. The Time traveler's wife was in third place followed by Julie and Julia in fourth place. The gerbils are hanging in the top five by a thread in G Force. In shocking news this was a great weekend for limited releases as The Goods ranked in 6th place which shocked me considering how it offers almost nothing good or interesting. In Seventh we had Harry Potter and eighth place was the Ugly Truth followed by Ponyo, yes an awesome limited release actually made it on the countdown. In last place was Funny People.
In even more shocking news, the tween flick Bandslam with a Disney Channel cast bombed at the box office debuting at spot number thirteen was Bandslam, the other major wide release. The producers are still wondering what went wrong and so am I because that movie was actually good. I guess Aly Michalka and Vanessa Hudgens don't draw huge crowds on their owns unless they're part of an ensemble or on some Disney Channel original movie. Isn't it amazing how bad movies about Disney channel stars gross very high at the box office yet actual quality films bomb and tank. I guess in Disney land with all it's brainwashed teens anything is truly fantasy and possible.
