Bandslam review

We actually have a good coming of age comedy that nobody actually expected to be good or even took it remotely seriously. This film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, two Disney channel alumni except this movie actually has decent material. i laso love the fact of the popularity contrast between the lead actress and the supporting actress. Vanessa Hudgens isn't even the lead character yet all of the buzz is for her in this movie. Sucks for Aly.
The story goes like this a gifted singer, Charlotte Banks asks the new kid in town, will Burton to manage her fledging rock band. She appears to have one thing on her mind going head to head with her egotistical ex boyfriend, Ben at the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands. Against all odds, their band develops a new sound all on its own and having a great chance at winning the contest. Well basically it's a teen movie, but a non original idea that was worked better than most movie developers would've worked it.
The acting is good, and the music is good too. I'd say that this film is the sleeper hit of the year. I know I'm going to get a lot of heat because District 9 was probably the best sleeper hit of the summer, but this was a underwhelming looking film that nobody really was hyped about that is easily the best teen comedy in a long time well since a Judd Apatow high school movie at least. I'm a bit disappointed that critics are calling it a mix of John hughes and Cameron Crowe put together considering how far superior both of those directors are. Also the fact that John hughes passing away is being used as a name again for publicity for a film which always makes me sick except for the Dark knight because that scenario was a bit different however i hate it when a movie is overhyped due to a person's death and that is used as it's main draw point. Just to let you know this has nothing to do with this movie it has to do with some of the lobbyists/critics of Hollywood.
This film is very good and was a pleasant surprise from what most of us would have expected from it. It would be an enjoyable film for teenagers who aren't smart enough to sneak into District 9, and is the second best film out this week.
Review B
To show my respect for John Hughes I'm going to do an honorable deed and not mention his name in the tags to get more readers. However, it will be used in my upcoming post in which I'll post a tribute to John Hughes and his contribution to filmmaking.
