Dunk Films - by Christopher Waldeck

Avatar trailer review

August 20th 2009 20:33
I just watched the first official teaser trailer for avatar and I ordered my ticket for the exclusive free 15 minutes of Avatar. The trailer looked like it had amazing CGI, but I wasn't as impressed as I think i should have been. As you know this film has been generating buzz for it's revolutionary CGI and pure beauty. Well it's impressive just not as impressive as I was hoping it would be.

The trailer was a bit of a downer and I don't think that it should've been revealed so early considering the fact the the free footage was coming out so soon. I really put a damper on the hype. This film will be hard to judge right now because of the trailer. If it didn't look impressive than it might be difficult to see as a theatrical film because the style of the film was meant to be strictly IMAX or 3D which means that Cameron is trying to create a different quality of film. A higher resolution film that can be on every screen. This would be groundbreaking if it works., and if not the film still looks great.

t looks like something that you'd see in a fantasy game in which you are playing an avatar character except these avatars are the coolest I've ever seen. The people capture samples of a species and turn themselves into the species thus making them avatars.

They are taken to a bizarre planet where there is war and danger everywhere.

from what i've seen this will be the most original scifi movie in ages not that District 9 wasn't an original idea, but this movie looks different and cool. I think any science fiction fanatic will love this film and lord knows Cameron will make ridiculous profits off of this film.

What i find to be most interesting about Avatar is if james cameron gets rave reviews and it's nominated for an Academy Award. i wonder if this film would actually win a best picture as a science fiction film knowing that the academy is so high on veteran Hollywood directors. This could force the academy to acknowledge a genre film as a best picture for once.
