Action Era Ends

March 21st 2008 11:27
It appears we are at the end of an era, the demise of the action movie star generation. With one of the biggest actors of all time, most certainly in the action genre Arnold Schwarzenegger’s move to politics has left the door wide open for his competition to steal the lime light. Have they grasped the opportunity, or turned into a falling star.

Wesley Snipes career has seemed to have hit a giant hurdle with one of the most talented martial arts actors been charged on the 17th of October 2006 for eight counts tax fraud and facing up to three years jail time. When asked why he avoided paying his taxes when he makes so much he replied “That’s a good question”. Snipe’s has pulled out of all upcoming movies to concentrate on his efforts into staying out of prison. Blade Trinity, the third from his blockbuster trilogy Blade was to prove his best payday making 13 Million, yet a glamorous career appears over.

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s movie career has also come to a slow and painful end. The Belgium’s last 13 movies have failed miserably at the box office going back to 1999 to his sequel Universal Soldier: The Return for his last success, his biggest payday being 6.2 Million for his role in Street Fighter. The man who turned down the role of being predator in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie Predator to make his breakout film Blood Sport, has not signed up to any new scripts and what was one of the pioneering stars of martial arts, seems to be at the end of his time.

Steven Seagal’s movie making days seem to still have life, but for how long? The man who is nicknamed The Master of Aikido, which he is a chief instructor of, has three upcoming movies to be released. His recently completed untitled film has given him a chance in the much anticipated different genre of comedy, however for the diehard Seagal fans his next two films are all action. His first seven films were in starring roles, Executive Decision the film to break the trend but arguably his best film The Glimmer Man followed it. Seagal who once broke the wrist of a fellow actor because he considered him to be too cocky, that actor being Sean Connery in training for a James Bond Film will illustrate to the world where he stands in the movie world after the release of his latest films.

Sylvester Stallone is the only actor in this selected group to be nominated for an Oscar in a leading role for his efforts in Rocky, in saying that he has been nominated for 23 Razzie’s for the worst actor award winning eight of them. He is the only action star to be able to compare his financial figure for action movies to Arnold Schwarzenegger, both had a price tag of 20 Million. Since his last two films adding to his empire of Rocky and Rambo collections, he has turned his eye to television by acting, producing and directing in a crime/drama series about the deaths of Biggie, Tupac and police corruption. Sounds a success, you tell me? He is writing, directing and producing a new feature film called Poe set to be released in 2009 and is rumoured to have Viggo Mortensen as lead actor. What ever the future is for Sylvester Stallone, it is certain he has ended his days of action in front of the camera for his passion behind it.

It has come into sight that the days of the fully fearful action heroes have come to an end. Where the industry will turn for the action junkies to have their fix of fast paced martial combat mixed with immense explosions, time will only tell. There is no doubt we are at the end of a generation, one that has been enjoyed by so many around the world and will be impossible to replace.

They are all so old!! and the new action heroes are completely s*@t. Take the guy who plays XXX -- awful! The only remotely new action star who is any good is the new bond guy.
