A Perfect Getaway is surprisingly good.

When I first saw the trailer for A Perfect Getaway directed by David Twohy who gave us Pitch Black and the disappointing Chronicles of Riddick as well as below, I wasn't interested considering the fact that it looked like it would be another cheap money grabbing move by Hollywood, however I decided to check it out anyway and to be honest it's really good. For a film that promoted itself with phony mewscasts on youtube that gave hints to the movie like Harpers Globe for Harpers Island, I was expecting a let down, but this film delivered.
The film opens up with Cliff(Steve Zahn) and Cydney(Milla Jovovich) driving in Hawaii on their honeymoon which is intercut footage that is part of an opening wedding video. Cliff nearly crashes the car while he;s talking to Cydney. They pick up parking permits from a store so that they can hike the trail where they come across a couple Cleo(Marley Shelton) and Kale(Chris Hemsworth), who are trying to reach the beach and just got married, Cliff offers them a ride to the trail, but Kale is hostile and refuses. As they're driving they meet hiker Nick(Timothy Olyphant). They soon find out about a couple being murdered from girls trying to get signals on their cell phones. Cliff gets a single and reads google for the stories on the murderers, and finds out that they were unknowingly photographed as a couple, man and woman. Before he can see the picture he is interrupted by Kale and Cleo. They're all going to the same place and they decide to tag along with each other.
Well this is as much of the plot as I'm going to tell you because if I say anymore I'll spoil it. the twist is revealed early in the film, but it's an incredible twist. Believe the hype. The scenery is also incredibly beautiful in the film. it was filmed on location in Hawaii and Puerto rico. All I have to say if finally we have a decent thriller. this film will be overshadowed by the relentless and cheesy blockbuster of Gi Joe, but if you're looking for a great sleeper hit. this is your film. It's surprisingly well acted and directed. Some may say that the twist is predictable, but that's just some people who come in with the mentality of already knowing the film without giving it a chance. The film is meant to be why the couple is committing the murders not who they are.
